A Carefree Vacation for a 1st Timer
by Harmony from Los Angeles, CA
Sailing date:
Apr 2011
Pros:
Minimal planning
For a first time cruiser, everything was perfect. The meals was excellent. I was assigned on the Aloha deck cabin 259 and 255, they were at a great location close to the elevator but with no loud noise, the view was great!

Ship Quality
After a 7 day cruise, I still had a hard time navigating through the ship. It was a big ship but all staffs were helpful on providing us with accurate directions. Our steward cleaned and replenished our amenities twice a day. We always had fresh towels. He was very attentive.
Dining/Food
All dining rooms were fab. Food is excellent. Cocktails were definitely very weak. Stick to wine and you can bring your own wine and champagne onboard and just pay the corkage fee of $15 if you would like to have it with your meals in the dining room.
Stateroom Quality
It was a good size good with a big balcony. It had everything you would need for a week with plenty of storage space.

Definitely take a water taxi and get off at Lover's beach for a stroll. Make sure you bring a ziplock bag to hold your electronics so that they don't get wet when you get off the boat. Bring a towel and your snorkeling gear.

Saphire Princess is luxurious!
by Adrian W from Orange County, CA
Sailing date:

Pros:
The food, the service, the suite
Cons:
the solicitation
The Alaskan cruise in September was full of retired people. The crowd was very quiet. I never was woken up by kids running and screaming up and down the halls. This cruise was very romantic. An excellent choice for a couple that wants to be wined and dined and pampered to their every needs. Alaska is absolutely beautiful!!! Make sure you bring wet weather clothes just in case. Formal nights are very fancy. This cruise is not for children/teenagers.

Glacier Flightseeing!
Ketchikan, Alaska
WET WET WET!!! It was raining alot. We went to see the totem pole park and then went to a river and a harbor area to view some wildlife. Our bus driver wasn't very friendly though he seemed a bit upset.
Skagway, Alaska
Lots of little shops along the boardwalk. Very nostalgic. Saw lots of eagles, bears, & seals in the area
Don't Miss:
Wildlife Hike and float tour was beautiful.
Victoria, British Columbia
A great college town lots of younger crowds. Alot of pubs and bars to visit in the evening hours.
Don't Miss:
The main government building lit up at night, the empress hotel

Just ok cruise
by Judith F from Los Angeles
Sailing date:
Apr 2013
Pros:
Convenience of sailing from our home port
Cons:
The size of the ship
This ship carried almost 3000 passengers and by doing so lost the personal concern that we all desire from our travel providers. I had a bad experience with the front desk, pre-booked independent reservation that we could not use due to arriving in SanFrancisco 4 hours behind schedule; the desk refused us any on board compensation for the $50 museum exhibition tickets we were out because of the late arrival. The day after arriving home we checked the bridge camera on the Princess website and found that this sailing too they were arriving SF as late as we did. This is false advertising it seems to me when the delay is consistent. We also had an experience with a rude hostess at breakfast in the main dining room, who told us our request for a table for two was not friendly. It is not a ship employee's job to judge the passengers' choices!

I would never sail such a large ship again!
Dining/Food
The food in the 5 dining rooms was consistently good, served promptly and hot. I had some unique and tasty courses that impressed me with their chef.
Stateroom Quality
We had a mini-suite which was large and comfortable and we had a tub in the bathroom which I had never had on previous cruises.
Ship Staff Quality
Our cabin steward was wonderful. But one bad experience with a dining room hostess and the attitude of the front desk brought the rating down.
Entertainment & Activities
We felt the showroom acts were just so-so compared to other cruise lines.

Fun to get away

Pros:
Relaxing
Cons:
Disembarking
We cruised on this ship on its maiden voyage, and it was amazing! Now 9 years later it is a bit dated. The rooms could use a update. But they have added a outside movie screen and that is really nice.

Dining/Food
Now the buffet is a buffet, not great food but a lot of it. Our best dinning experience was the specialty dinning. We ate at Sterlings (20.00 per person) the food was very good. Then we ate at Sabatinis (20.00 per person) and it was AMAZING!!! The food was incredible and the service was perfect. But our favorite dinning experience was the CHEFS TABLE. I recommend this 10 stars. This is pricey 90.00 per person, but it is worth every penny. You are given a private galley tour from the chef, champagne and wine, special appetizers and a 7 course meal served by the chef. And extras, but I don't want to ruin the surprises! Book this early only one night per cruise.
Stateroom Quality
We had a mini suite so it was spacious but a little dated.
Ship Staff Quality
Most were really nice, I had a manager in the buffet tell me I could not take a carafe of coffee to my room, I told him for the price I paid for the cruise I did not expect to be told no. The matrieD apologized for the problem and sent chocolate strawberries to our room. The same matreD was very helpful on this trip.our waiter at Sabatinis (Gabrielle ) was above what we expected.
Entertainment & Activities
This is why we love cruising, you can do as little or as much as you want. I felt the games in the lounges were a little rushed but still fun. Bingo is becoming a real disappointment. They use to pay out depending on how many people played now it is 100. 150. 200. And 400. Paying 2200 On the last day. We paid 30.00 per session and most days there were 2 sessions per day. Apx. 70 to 150 per session, do the math now it's just another way for them to make a lot of money, plus they charge for the dobbers!
